EQL Work Based Diploma Student Blog: Week 22

It was all excitement on Wednesday as The One Show were with us! We were all pitching in and Holly was our star, being interviewed for hours! She did really well and we're all proud of her. She really got across how important the course is for 14 - 16 year olds and how it's not just a "doss" course like some people think!

It's amazing how much work goes in to a 5 minute slot on television, as they were literally at the yard all day! Red (the coloured in the pictures) wasn't a fan of the weight tape Holly had to put around him, what a wimp! He was very good in the end and stood still for an awfully long time. I've got some pictures and videos of Red, Baileys and some of our other horses being filmed, but it'll take me a while to edit those. Hopefully I'll have them done by the end of the week, but as I start full time at Bigland on Monday I can't promise anything.

Sheelagh was also interviewed and all her passion and support for our students came through, so hopefully that'll rally other people in to supporting this issue! I've got some of this on video as well, so I hope the sound is OK on it.

Imogen was also interviewed for a while, showing the presenter, Lucy, how to tack up and she did it with my little Spirit! She was very good and just stood their looking sleepy. We wish Baileys would have done that earlier in the day, the little monkey kept on eating the fence! Me and Sheelagh attempted to keep him looking up by waving carrots about, which sort of worked, until he wanted to gobble them up.

One of the last shots that involved the horses was coming up one of the roads and into one of the fields. The horses only get ridden in this field when they're going to be doing a cross country course, which of course excited them! Hattie and Flash were on a bit of a mission, so Spirit and Imogen came to the rescue and Lucy had to swap from Flash to Spirit. I've honestly never seen Flash so hyper, ears pricked, prancing, the lot!

We eventually got them all to stand still for the take and then we could finally go home. It felt like a very long day, but it'll all be worth it if we get the word out about what the government is trying to do to our industry. It's being aired on Monday night on BBC1 at 7pm, so I hope you'll all be watching!

Next time I update I'll be an official staff member at Bigland, I'm so excited!
