My name is Nicki Strong of Headstrong Equestrian. I am a 27 year old amateur rider from Hampshire, blogging mostly about training for, and starting out competing at British Eventing - with a little bit of showjumping thrown in there for good measure!

Hay net I've missed you, naughty broken laptop! Little piece above about being the right person for a horse...or not as the case may be! X

Firstly, apologies for the lack of activity lately; I've been in a state of flux really, trying to figure out the best way forward. Now that has been established, and I'm happy with my decision, it's probably time to share! If you aren't already aware, af...

2 days of being assaulted by hail, torrential rain and thunderstorms (which all arrived as soon as I left work :o/) and I was not a happy bunny - talk about withdrawal symptoms! Now feeling de-stressed after a storm free evening and fab flatwork lesson. Have a great weekend all! :-)

Hey everyone, following a visit from a saddler yesterday, I found that my saddles no longer fit! Have included a link to them below...really interesting though that he said the jumping saddle would pinch him on the wither as it was slightly too narrow and could have been causing him to stop or nap, had we experienced that? Well the answer is yes! Although I'm sure this will end up being very costly in terms of buying more saddles, and having to sell my gorgeous comfy saddles that I love, I'm so glad I had them checked. No point spending lots of money on lessons and physio after all if his tack doesn't fit him well and may have been causing him discomfort! Money well spent. Fingers crossed this will mean I have a happier Willo and the refusals might disappear...I want my Willo back!

I had a very smiley happy weekend after riding my favourite 4-legged friend who I haven't ridden in about 8-9 months!

An old friend!

An old friend!

It's been a bit of a quiet week really; little Ruby, my 4y/o has a virus so is only in very light work at the moment until she's over it, and is also awaiting physio to determine her ongoing balance issues.

Hi Hay-netters. Apologies for lack of interaction recently I've been swamped! A little insight into training after Tweseldown, and some bit trials!

XC schooling...with wings

After the excitement of Tweseldown, I gave Willo Monday off to recover...because if his muscles ached a fraction of what mine did, he would be grateful for it! Back to training as usual on Tuesday though, and throughout the week we just continued with a m...

I am fast coming to the conclusion that I need either a lottery win, or several other jobs. You know everything seems to come at once? Just booking vet and physio to assess and treat both horses, then realise the farrier will be due at the same time, and now the tax for my 4x4 is due - and that's before any of the entry fees or livery costs! What an expensive sport ours is. My family often remind me of how well off I'd be without the horses....which is true of course, but frankly I wouldn't know what to do with myself. I'm a shopaholic by nature so I'm sure I'd just find something else to spend it on anyway...like more shoes! I wouldn't change having my horses for the world though...and at least if I'm always destined to be poor financially I will have an enriched soul thanks to my 4-legged's!
